We love a hack over at Little Button Diaries HQ (does that make us sound fancy? Like we have big offices and staff and stuff? hmm) and this one is super peasy. I’ve had this adorable amazing wrapping paper from dotcomgiftshop for a while and wanted to make a paper lampshade out of it. But to be honest, I’m no origami pro and I kept messing it up and wasting the paper.
Then I was in Ikea and I saw this lampshade. I think it was £2. This was my, ahem, light bulb moment. The complicated part of cutting and working out how to make it hang was done for me! £2!
Here’s how to make it (not that it needs much explanation!)
You Will need:
- Ikea Joxtorp lampshade
- 2 sheets of wrapping paper
- PVA glue
- craft knife
Add a light layer of PVA to the orange side of the lampshade segments and carefully place the wrapping paper on top, making sure it is the right way up (I actually didn’t make sure of that and had to start again from scratch, wasting 2 beautiful sheets of paper. ffs). Smooth down any bubbles with your hand.
Cut out roughly and place under a heavy book to dry without curling. Then take a pair of scissors and cut out the segments. Poke the original holes with a pen and use a craft knife to carefully score over the existing slits.
Fold and slot together as per the instructions. Done! I feel a bit silly for even having written instructions for that, couldn’t really be more obvious could it. Next week we show you how to use scissors!
