A few weeks ago it was Harper’s 4th birthday and we celebrated with a superhero-themed party. She’s been planning her party since her 3rd birthday, so it felt like it was a long time coming. And the day before, I came down with a terrible virus, so the whole experience was a slightly surreal, medication-fuelled riot!
It’s always the way at parties that it’s impossible to get a decent photo of the action. Harper decided although she was desperate to have a superhero party, she wanted to be Harper Superhero whose superpower was ‘flowers’. I’ve got no idea if that means making flowers, shooting petals from her wrists or what, and still don’t know! She also wanted her and her sidekick ‘Rocky’ (the artist formerly known as Grayson) to be in matching outfits.
Here’s the whole family! We haven’t got a photo of all of us since we were married and there are a few awesome additions to the family since then. We had Harper’s Street Dance teacher come to teach the superheroes some moves and a little craft table to make superhero cuffs, which basically lead to glitter and sequins being spread all over the hall.
So the cake… the cake wasn’t how it was intended to be. As I was basically in bed for the day before the party, I didn’t get to finish my cake. After a last-minute dash to the supermarket we got this one and after beating myself up over not making her a cake myself I realised that in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter and it was hoovered up in minutes.
So this piñata was a real labour of love. All that cutting and sticking for it to be bashed by an entourage of treat-hungry pre-schoolers! I wish we had videoed the moment the piñata split (which took FOREVER!) as I’m sure some of the kids genuinely flew onto the goodies on the floor. Kids can certainly pounce when there are treats up for grabs.
This awesome Photo Booth was lent to us by our lovely friend Emily, who made it for her son’s superhero party.
I think they had the most fun tidying up! The minute the party was over, Harper declared that for her 5th birthday she wanted a Frozen party. I’m sure she’ll be holding a planning meeting with me soon. I’ll be doing blog posts soon on their costumes and the piñata!
