This stuff, if you haven’t already discovered it, is wonderful for kiddies to make a mess with. Plus it’s cheap and really quick to make which is good for us! So what the oobleck is this stuff? Well, it’s goo. Goo made from cornflour, that has the weirdest consistency ever. The name comes from Dr. Seuss who wrote a book, “Bartholomew & The Oobleck” about a substance that acts like a liquid, but when you apply pressure, it turns to a solid.
We made a little video to show you how to make it, or scroll down for the steps.
You Will Need:
- Cornflour (we used 2 cups but you can use any quantity)
- food colouring
To make it, all you need to do is pour the cornflour into a bowl then mix in the water, a little at a time until it becomes gooey. When you scrape the spoon through the mixture it should crack then quickly sink back together.
Add a few drops of food colouring in different colours. Then you can play! Mix it around and see how the colours blend, let your fingers sink in and try rolling the oobleck into a ball.
This is quite a messy make of course, so be sure to cover clothes and surfaces before you start. The cornflour dissolves and washes away quickly but you clearly need to watch the food colouring as it can stain.
