A couple of years ago, when Harper was two, I thought I’d start a little Christmas tradition of going ice skating. Who seriously tries to take a two-year-old skating?! As you might guess, it was a disaster. As was last year when we tried to go again. But when the Royal Pavilion opened its doors to their ice rink last week, I thought I’d try for third time lucky. The Christmas countdown has begun. Oh I do love this time of year!
So when I was younger I used to do figure skating. In my head I still think I can Axel and Lutz my way across the ice when in reality I can just about stand up without a massive Bambi-style wobble. Now throw in an unstable Harper and a penguin, and that’s a party on the ice. This was the first year she actually wanted to use a penguin for support and she nailed it.
Totally proud moment, Harper was a little scared when we first got on the ice but completely trusted me and skated with a penguin, with me going backwards.
Grayson was a total dream boat as he fell asleep on the way down to the ice rink, slept whilst we were on the ice and only woke up for the hot chocolate and gingerbread man in the cafe once we’d finished. This never happens and we couldn’t have planned it any better if we’d tried.
Hey, maybe we might get all four of us on the ice next year. Although the thought of Grayson on the ice with sharp skates attached to his feet and only a penguin for support makes me shudder a little still.
