We kind of miss the days when an Advent calendar was just a piece of card with pictures of holly and candles in it. Our kids have never had an advent calendar like that – they probably never will. With some advent calendars costing up to £100 for ‘proper’ toys in them… have we gone a bit advent mental? Well, maybe. But you don’t need to spend big bucks to have yourself an alternative advent.
You may have seen my post last week on my little DIY Elf on the Shelf sewing project. I was very proud of him, I tried my bestest this time :-).
I’ve been looking at fun (non OTT!) Elf on the Shelf ideas and I thought I’d share with you my findings. I’m not a fan of the serious-effort-required ones. There are a few in the list below because I thought they were ace, but there are loads of super quick and easy ones too.
As you can probably guess, crafting with the kids is one of our favourite things to do. So we thought it was only right to celebrate the festive season with a Little Buttons Christmas craft party where we all sat happily together and made our own sparkly hats!
These are great for kids to make by the way, make a simple cardboard crown and add two strips of double sided tape around the outside. Then fill the table with things to stick onto it and you have a sticky-fingers-free craft activity!
Is it okay to be in Christmas mode yet? We couldn’t wait any longer! We decided to make a little Advent Garland for the Hobbycraft Blog – 24 little stockings and mittens that can be filled with goodies in the lead up to Christmas. It’s really easy to make but bear in mind that you do need to make twenty four! So it takes a little time.
