What better way to say Merry Christmas than with a cactus? They have gone on my Christmas list as I’ve still not got any in the house! I’m so behind the times. I wanted to make a card a few Christmas cards for my nearest and dearest that had a detachable tree decoration and cactus and pom poms popped into my mind so I gave it a whirl.
You must have noticed that cactus designs seem to be on every item of clothing at the moment. After seeing a pair of adult cactus shoes, I decided to make Harper a mini version by embroidering a cheap pair of pumps from Primark.
You will need:Pair of pumps Green and brown embroidery thread Scrap of card Pen or pencil, needle and pin.
1. Begin by drawing your cactus templates onto card. Create one template for the front of the shoes and a few smaller ones in a variety of cactus shapes for the sides. Cut these out.
Potato print has become my new obsession. It’s easy to do and a lot more versatile than I first thought. After printing this flamingo bag and our festive pets stocking, I decided to add some stamping to some plain white baby grows for my smallest Little Button.
You will need:
- Plain white baby grow
- Fabric paint in green and black
- Sharp knife
- Wooden skewer
- Sheet of newspaper
- Piece of scrap fabric
1. Begin by cutting your potato in half to create the stamp. Draw the image you want for your stamp on a sheet of paper as a template. You can print an image or trace one, just as long as it is a simple silhouette and small enough to fit your potato. Cut the image out.
It seems like everyone I know is moving house and away from Brighton at the moment. All those lovely neighbours I have come to call friends and who I rely on for last-minute play dates, parenting solidarity, and cups of tea are all moving on to pastures new. It’s sad to see so many people move on at once, but if there is an upside, it’s that I can make lots of nice ‘new home’ gifts for them all! What I like about these cement and copper plant pots is that they’re easy to make, and suitable for use indoors or outside.
