We’ve been a bit quiet on the baking front recently because Laura tried to give up refined sugar (it lasted 1 hour and 49 minutes exactly #fail) and Tia is having major house renovations which has left her without a kitchen… and bathroom and living room… for a while. We’ve still been pinning things we’d like to make and since we have the kids around a bit due to the holiday we’ve got a few bakes to do with them so we thought we’d share them with you. Here are our top picks of things to whip up in the kitchen with the kiddiwinks:
It was my father-in-law’s birthday recently and he is a fan of the artist Piet Mondrian. After seeing this amazing cake by American pastry chef, Caitlin Freeman, I wanted to try my best to recreate it. My version may be a little wonky and nowhere as neat as the original, but the birthday boy seemed to liked it!
Unlike my Little Button Counterpart, Laura, I am not a natural baker. I try, I do…. I just seem to get a bit lost on the way and usually end up with unmitigated disasters that go in the bin. This cake started off like that. I messed up on several hurdles. And yet it still tasted really yummy! So, for anyone out there who is like me I recommend making this cake. Evidently, its fool proof.
