DIY Teacher’s Gift: Apple Key Dish

clay apple key dish

As it’s nearly the summer holidays our lovely friends at Cath Kinston asked us to come up with a handmade teacher’s gift. So we thought what better way to say thank you to teachers for all their hard work than with an apple… key dish! This is made from air dry clay and then painted and is easy enough for school children to do. For the full tutorial on how to make the dish head over to the Cath Kidston blog.

Nap Time Crafts: Leather Feathers

leather feather keyring little button diaries 10

If you have any scraps of leather lying around this is a really simple and quick DIY to make a lovely set of feather keyrings. Just find yourself a simple feather silhouette image online and widen the stem so that it’s big enough for your eyelet.

You will need:

  • scraps of gold & brown leather (about 15cm x 5cm)
  • 1cm gold eyelets
  • leather punch, or regular hole punch
  • hammer
  • masking tape
  • keyrings

1. Begin by drawing out a couple of feathers on paper. You can use the template I made for mine. Make sure that the stem of the feather (stem? stick? you know what I mean!) is wider than your eyelet. Cut the template out roughly, then cut the leather so that it is just a little bigger than the feather.

Frozen Olaf Snowglobe DIY

frozen olaf snow globe little button diaries tutorial

Do you Want to Build a Snowglobe?

Like 99.9% of all little girls, my 2 and a half year old is obsessed with Frozen. What IS it with that film? I now find her singing Let it Go in her sleep (cute) and find me singing it in my head. All. Day. Long (annoying).

If you’re after a cute little Christmas Project, this is a great one to do with kiddies. Obviously it doesn’t have to be Olaf, you could just make a snowman (or The Snowman!) or use a plastic figurine instead of making one from fimo.

A Baby Sunhat Tutorial

baby sunhat tutorial

Oh dear me…I’m ashamed to say that my little one got a bit of a burnt head the other day! It was only a tiny bit… but I feel very guilty. So to make up for it, I decided to make her a nice new sunhat. I find the ones in the shops are all a bit samey and boring. This one is bright, reversible and SO easy to make (so easy in fact that I made two). I found a really lovely tutorial and template here on www.purlbee.com.

Nap Time Crafts: Make your own Cufflinks

Over Christmas I saw a lot of personalised cufflinks for sale on the internet and around the shops with quite hefty price-tags. I wanted to buy some as gifts but then it occurred to me that, if I could find the cufflink bases, I could just as easily make these myself. So I did a bit of googling and found I could make 3 pairs of cufflinks for only £10 from Etsy (available from Purplemountainbtq. Click here to view) including postage from the US!
