pom pom flower bouquet diy

So with Mother’s Day fast approaching, we thought it was the perfect time to get the pom pom makers out, as what better way to say ‘I love you’ than with pom poms. These pom pom flowers can be made by adults or kids and if you’ve not got a present sorted yet then this is a fab last-minute project to make! Would it be wrong if we made some for ourselves?!

Mini Makers: Clay Plant Pots

mini clay pots final 4

We ❤ air dry clay. But it’s only recently that our kids are starting to enjoy the stuff too (previous attempts haven’t always ended well with our kids either eating the clay or mushing it into their hair). Once you’re out of the toddler zone air dry clay is a fantastic medium for them to play around with – easy to mould, inexpensive, paintable and felt tip pen-able! Hobbycraft asked us to come up with an easy craft for kids using clay, so we decided to make these teeny plant pots, which are ridiculously easy to make with the help of a loo roll tube!

If you like our video then head over to our YouTube channel for more kids crafts and parenting videos. We’re fairly new to making videos but have been trying to channel our inner Blue Peter presenters to improve. If there’s anything you’d like to see us make or talk about then we’d love to know. Otherwise we’ll end up waffling about Custard Creams, Take That and Made In Chelsea!

Mini Makers: Glitter Thank You Cards

glitter thank you cards

We’re still at the stage with Harper where we have to remind her to say “please” and “thank you” from time to time. So after receiving a lovely bunch of Christmas gifts, we wanted to make sure we got our thank you cards out without delay. Because Harper loves glitter, and because she had enjoyed making some glittery Christmas tree decorations, we decided to have one more go using the sparkly stuff for this really simple craft project.

Life In Pictures: A Busy Week

little button diaries

This week has been so busy! Usually our worky things get spread out a little bit but this week, er, nope. All whacked together in one jam-packed half term week. It’s been fun, hectic and tiring in equal measures.

We began the week doing a day of baking for our next craft book… the theme of which we won’t say but there might be a little clue in the pics if you’re clever enough to work it out :-). Luckily we only had Grayson around to help us out who spent the whole day trying to climb on the table (where the cake was) and say “ARRGH”. He wasn’t much of a help decorating biscuits.

Continuing our total pom pom obsession (we’re loving our pom pom earrings, clutch bag and giant woolly door sign right now), how cute are these little pom pets? They’re so easy to make and kids will love winding the wool with their hands and giving them a little trim (and making a lot of woolly mess all over your carpet. You’re welcome). We made a little video tutorial for the spider and instructions for the rest are detailed below.

We thought we’d give you a sneak peek into our favourite book so far (shh don’t tell the others!), Mini Makers. It’s a really special book to us. It took a long time to put together and all of the projects were tested out on our little guinea pigs. We’re really proud of how it turned out.

Biscuit Tic Tac Toe

biscuit

I’ve got a little obsession with biscuits. I count them as one of the major food groups after cheese and bread. I try not to keep them in the house, but since The Great British Bake Off returned they’ve crept back into our cupboard. Instead of just eating biscuits I thought I’d make a version of tic tac toe (noughts and crosses) using my favourite biscuits (Bourbons) and what Harper says are hers (she’s never actually had a Party Ring, but she likes the fact that they’re pink).

Our Book Launch at Hobbycraft

hobbycraft little button diaries book launch 9

Our book launch at Hobbycraft on Saturday was THE most fun. We were really excited about it (and also a bit nervous that it would just be the two of us, some balloons and 1oo paper plates to play with). It was so lovely seeing our books on display and for sale, we haven’t seen them in a store before, so we were definitely a bit giddy (and probably uncool) about it.

Mini Makers: Felt Shapes and Bead Necklace

kids craft: felt shapes and bead necklace - little button diaries 1

We’re at a tricky phase in our house where my Little Buttons have different routines. Harper hasn’t napped in a while (unless of course we’re in the car and my phone has run out of battery so I’m sat there twiddling my thumbs – anyone else have completely wasted nap opportunities like this?! I digress), Grayson on the other hand has a daily lunchtime sleep. So I’ve been trying to think of ‘big girl’ activities that Harper and I can do while the little one sleeps. I find it tricky to squeeze in craft projects when Grayson is awake as he wants to just a) eat everything or b) grab it from the table, run and hide and then try to eat it. So I’ve been coming up with a few ‘little bits’ activities to do with Harper during these nap times. This felt shapes and bead necklace was a good way for her to practise the fine motor skill of threading, and to make a colourful necklace at the same time.
