Back to School Pencil Case

applique pencil case little button diaries 13

As a little starting school gift, I thought I would make Amelie a little stitched pencil case. I know she probably doesn’t need one yet, but still. I wanted to make it! So here it is. It didn’t take long, with a little evening stitching in front of the box.  I appliqued it with a yellow pencil and stitched her name on. I know, she will probably ditch it very quickly in favour of some Helly Kitty of Frozen crap, but she likes it at the moment!

Hoop Tent DIY

scalloped hoop tent diy by little button diaries 17

I’ve seen a few hoop tent DIYs online recently, like this one from A Beautiful Mess which is beyond beautiful and the cluster of inspiration on Brit & Co. I thought I’d have a go at my own, with the inclusion of a scalloped edge top. It uses muslin which is delicate and inexpensive, as well as a cotton tent top threaded onto a hula hoop. I didn’t get the top perfect, the end result wasn’t quite as I had visualised!

Unicorn Pillow Part 2: Quick Zipped Pillow

unicorn pillow tutorial little button diaries

A couple of weeks ago I posted part one of this pillow tutorial – the unicorn applique. So here’s how to turn that little applique into a pillow. Oooh la la: French Knickers Tutorial

french knickers tutorial and pattern little button diaries

I just wanted to share my super easy peasy french knickers pattern with you. Don’t worry, I haven’t put any pictures of me in my pants up. No one wants to see that.

I’ve made a few pairs of these in the past, tried out a few different patterns that I bought and thought I’d tweak my favourites to make my own French Knickers Pattern for you to print out too. Don’t be put off by the fact that the pattern looks more like an elephant’s head than knickers, it’s a lot easier than it looks and will quickly all come together. Honest!

How to Make a Simple Sewing Machine Cover

sewing machine cover little button diaries

I made a sewing machine cover last week (I say last week – as though I just whipped it up on a whim. I started making this sodding thing in February but put it aside when I ran out of bias binding and I haven’t picked it up since). I made it because my sewing machine – much as I love it – has the biggest, ugliest plastic clomp of a cover.

Patchwork Camera Strap Tutorial

patchwork camera strap

Our latest post for Hobbycraft is now live, hoorah! This month we decided to make something for our long-suffering cameras. We’re so snap happy – our cameras are always with us and they get a lot of bashing about, flung into the nappy bag with all manner of baby junk. We wanted to create a cover for the strap to personalise our cameras, one that can be removed for washing! This is a nice easy project and a great way to use up scraps of fabric.
