I’ve always wanted to live on a Houseboat. Well, always until I had kids I should say – not so sure I could handle the confinement/water proximity now that I have my two little monsters. But there’s something exciting about the freedom and simplicity of a boat on a canal. Last week we had a day on a lovely boat with our family and it was so lovely. I’ve been a bit of a whinger recently with all my house refurbishments and piles of to-do lists, so having a day on the water was just what I needed to chill me right out. That plus quite a few glasses of Prosecco.
It’s SUNNY! No, wait. It’s raining again. Maybe let’s just put sunglasses on and pretend it’s summer shall we? Last week I finally finished my cross stitch sunglasses case. I started it just at the start of the summer (ahem…last year), so it’s been on my complete-when-sunny pile. There’s not much else on the pile to be honest. I’ve never done cross stitching before so this was a trial and error, but I think it worked out quite nicely.
To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, we were asked to make some royal robes fit for a prince or princess. These are easy to make with some simple folding and cutting from a single piece of fabric, a little stitching and a personalised monogram to finish it off. Perfect for any royal celebrations. For the full tutorial, head over to the Cath Kidston blog.
Last week we took a little trip with our family friends to Center Parcs in Elveden Forest. It’s probably the only holiday we’ll get this year as we’re doing our house up, and I was ridiculously excited about going (and equally depressed about leaving. Waaah). It couldn’t have been more lovely. We swam and walked and wobbled around on bikes, ate about 6 blocks of Camembert and drank just enough Prosecco to make us giggle like teenagers throughout the evening.
We have to share with you our very exciting news!! We are in this month’s copy of Mollie Makes – our absolute favourite craft magazine. And it makes us VERY excited. We have been reading the magazine every month since it started and to be featured in it is something we have hoped for since we began our blog 3 years ago. So we’re happy right now!
I love a craft hack right now and I also love this season’s must-have hat. I don’t love the £300 price tag though! So I decided to do a virtually free version for a toddler. The original hat spelled its phrase in sequins but I chose embroidery as I know sequins are far too tempting a thing for my Little Button to pick off.
Last week we went to Butlins! It was very last minute and very random and, if I’m honest, I wasn’t expecting much beyond kids entertainment, cheesey shows and a pool. We went there because it was Amelie’s birthday and swimming is her favourite thing, after unicorns of course (option A easier to supply). But guess what (dum dum dum)… It was awesome!
Finding healthy desserts and snacks for kids in the summer can be a bit of a challenge. We have 3 ice cream-obsessed girls who spend their afternoons demanding mini milks! So, we did a bit of research for our latest vlog for Channel Mum and have come up with three quick, healthy desserts for kids: frozen yoghurt fruit bites, fruit jellies and an amazing totally guilt-free ice cream. Seriously – it has to be tried to be believed!
Pinterest is seriously dangerous. Every time I go onto it I seem to loss hours (literally whole evenings have disappeared) and have an overwhelming desire to make EVERYTHING on there. These edible ice cream bowls have been taunting me since last year and now there’s a bit of sunshine I couldn’t resist giving them a go.
Life in Pictures is our mini photo gallery of all the things we’ve been up to in the week. This week we’ve been putting on our party hats and celebrating friend’s birthdays (luckily there was sunshine and cake!) More importantly though, it was a big one for us as Tia moved house, meaning that we are no longer one road away from one another. Sniff. So sad about that fact :-(. The week has been filled up with packing up boxes, unpacking boxes and then stuffing boxes into the corner to wait a year because we are so over unpacking boxes already! We did get the craft stuff all unpacked though. Phew.
Life in Pictures is our weekly mini-gallery of what we’ve been up to. This week we’ve been enjoying the deckchairs and pebbles of Brighton beach (although we didn’t realise at the time that the pebbles were seriously grimey… ew. I think we found a barbecue spot!) We’ve also been having belated birthday celebrations and eaten a serious amount of cake!
We’re really excited to be working with Hobbycraft this month and judging their Summer Mini Maker Competition. If you’re between 3-8 years old and love making and creating then get crafting.
Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, upload a photo to Hobbycraft’s website (with the help of a grown up). You could win £100 Hobbycraft vouchers and a craft hamper full of fabulous craft goodies (we REALLY want it!).
